City leaders will attend activities surrounding the christening and launch of the USS Sioux City on January 30 in Marinette, WI. The littoral combat ship, or LCS11, is designed for mine detection, anti-submarine warfare and surface warfare with a design to sail closer to the coast, known as the littoral zone. Once in the water, crews will put the vessel through months of test trials before delivering the ship to the United States Navy in 2017.

Sioux City Mayor Bob Scott announced today that American Airlines will add service out of Sioux Gateway Airport to their hub in Dallas/Ft. Worth International Airport beginning Thursday, May 5, 2016. American’s service will be operated by its American Eagle regional partners using 50-seat ERJ 145 jets.

American will operate one daily flight to Dallas/Ft. Worth International Airport. In addition to being a great connecting hub for travelers heading west or southeast, Dallas is also a top destination for Siouxland leisure and business travelers.

The Dream Big Grow Here contest is an opportunity for Iowans to fulfill their dreams of self-employment or expansion of their current business. The contest allows entrepreneurs the chance to submit their dreams to start or expand a business, then encourage friends, family, and customers to vote for them online.

A new industrial shell speculative building, or spec building, located in Bridgeport West Industrial Park has been completed and is now on the market. A partnership between the City of Sioux City and H&R Construction, the 50,000 sq. ft. shell building was designed to help fill the need for industrial space requested by businesses looking to expand or relocate in a short period of time, with frequently requested features such as required ceiling or wall height.

Today, the Iowa Transportation Commission approved a Revitalize Iowa's Sound Economy (RISE) Immediate Opportunity grant application submitted by Sioux City. Final IDOT adjustments with contingencies resulted in a final award of up to $4,831,000. Funding will be made available to assist with road infrastructure improvements in the Bridgeport and Bridgeport West Industrial Parks relating to the Seaboard Triumph Foods project. Construction is anticipated to begin in April 2016 and continue through the 2017 construction season.

The official announcement took place at the Sioux City Convention Center.
