Make way for food trucks! Take in the summer air and dine curbside starting Friday, June 10, 2016 at the official kick-off for Food Truck Fridays in downtown Sioux City. Food Truck Fridays will take place on the corner of Douglas and 7th Streets every Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. during the months of June, July and August. Hosted by Startup Sioux City, the event will feature locally owned food trucks and their unique cuisine, from tacos and burgers to BBQ and ice cream. Tables and chairs will be provided for an enjoyable outdoor dining experience.

A “Growing Sioux City Award” was presented to Echo Electric Supply today recognizing the company’s growth and investment in Sioux City. The award, presented by Mayor Bob Scott, was accepted by Echo Electric Supply Manager Gary Wanderscheid. Sioux City wind shirts were provided to company executives and a new tree will be planted on the property located at 1200 Cunningham Drive, signifying the company’s commitment to growing in Sioux City.

The Sioux City Economic Development Department will host the spring 2016 “Business for Breakfast” event on Wednesday, April 6 at 7:30am at the Sioux City Convention Center. The free event will feature Roger Brooks as he shares the “Ingredients of a Successful Downtown”.

The Iowa District Office of the U.S. Small Business Administration has named the city of Sioux City as the recipient of its 2016 Iowa SBA Small Business Community of the Year Award.

This is the second year for the award, which highlights community efforts to support small business. Communities (defined as a city, town, county, regional economic development or planning district) were invited to submit nominations to the SBA’s Iowa District Office showcasing their efforts to support small businesses. For the fifth time in the last decade, the Sioux City metropolitan region ranks first in the nation for economic development, according to results confirmed today by Site Selection magazine. The region also earned top billing in back-to-back years in 2007 and 2008, as well as in 2012 and 2013. The metro ranked second both in 2009 and 2014 and finished third in 2006. The region has ranked in the top three nationally in its population category in a remarkable eight of the last ten years.
