Long-time Sioux City food service distribution company Braunger Foods, LLC has announced plans to expand its operations in Sioux City. Due to recent growth, the company has outgrown space at their 900 Clark Street location. BTW Properties, Inc., a real estate holding company for Braunger Foods, has made an offer to purchase a city-owned building at 2101 Murray Street, its contents and 16 acres of adjacent land. The Murray Street property was acquired by the city as part of the Sabre Industries expansion.
Upon purchase of the building and land, BTW Properties, Inc. plans to add more than 17,400 sq. ft. to the existing warehouse portion of the building and renovate 15,000 sq. ft. of the existing facility. Total investment for new construction and remodeling is anticipated at $2.2 million. Braunger Foods distributes food and related projects to approximately 1,000 restaurants, schools and health care facilities in a 180-mile radius of Sioux City within Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota.
Tony Wald, CEO of Braunger Foods said, “As a result of continued growth over the years, we have outgrown our current facility. In order to continue our success, we need to expand our footprint and look forward to doing so in Sioux City."
“Retaining local businesses is a top priority of the Council,” said Mayor Bob Scott. “We are appreciative of the investment by Braunger Foods and the opportunity to fill vacant space created by the growth of Sabre Industries.”
Braunger Foods has requested the City’s support for an application to the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) for financial assistance with the Targeted Jobs Withholding Tax Credits Program. Additionally, the City will assist the company with tax rebates on all new construction. The City Council will be asked to take action on Monday, August 10 to support approval of the Braunger Foods application to the IEDA. With Council approval, the application would be considered by the IEDA Board of Directors on August 21.
