Bomgaars Supply, Inc., a growing Midwestern leader in retail farm and ranch supply, will expand its Zenith Drive warehouse and distribution center in Sioux City. The project will also eventually include a renovation of corporate office facilities. After considering several tri-state locations, the long-time Sioux City retail company has chosen to expand on its current Zenith Drive site. The project will include a $17 million capital investment and the retention of 177 and creation of 15 jobs. The project will add approximately 150,000 s.f. to the existing 200,000 square foot distribution facility. The new space will have 34-foot high ceilings to accommodate the latest in warehousing/distribution systems and technology. Construction of the expansion is expected to begin in early 2014 and will likely be completed in early 2015.
“Bomgaars has made its home in Sioux City for more than 60 years and we are pleased to look at potentially making another large capital investment into this community,” commented Roger Bomgaars, President of Bomgaars. “Over the last decade, Bomgaars has grown from 15 to 66 stores and with any growing retail company, your Distribution Center is critical to ensure that product flows seamlessly to the stores and ultimately to the customer. It is time to look at expanding this important element of our growing business.”
“We are especially pleased to be able to work with such a long-time, respected company, said Mayor Bob Scott. “The decision of Bomgaars to expand their local distribution facility is a sure sign of the company’s growth and commitment to serving the community. We have also worked with the State and appreciate their commitment to the project.”
A leading farm and ranch supplier throughout the Upper Midwest, Bomgaars was established in Sioux City in 1952 and remains a family-owned company. Recent expansion in to Western states such as Colorado and Wyoming has grown the company a total of 66 stores and more than 1,500 employees company-wide. The new
distribution facility will allow the company to more efficiently handle these new stores and allow for the company’s future predicted growth.
The City Council will take action on Monday to support approval of the Bomgaars’ applications to the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA). Upon Council approval, the applications will be considered by the IEDA Board of Directors on October 18. The City of Sioux City has also worked with the company to provide financial assistance for the project. A development agreement committing the City’s assistance to the project will be brought to the City Council for consideration in December 2013.
