“Storefronts & Start-Ups” Grant Program Funded for Year Two

Downtown Partners in Sioux City, Iowa is pleased to announce that the second year of funding is available for the Downtown Sioux City Storefronts & Start-Ups Grant Program. Applications are available for businesses looking to enhance their downtown spaces. Eligible projects must be located within the boundaries of the Downtown Partners SSMID and funds are strictly for use towards storefront improvements and/or start-up business space needs.

In October 2018, Downtown Partners created a Downtown Sioux City Storefronts & Start-Ups grant program for downtown business owners. The goal of the program is to provide an incentive to help attract new and retain existing downtown commercial office/retail tenants while enhancing the overall value and appeal of the downtown business district. Eight businesses have taken advantage of the grant so far and include; Midtown Furniture for replacement of awning and signage; Park Avenue Tattoo for a projecting sign; Diving Elk for enhancements to their front entrance; Rebos for the replacement of their front door; Brightside Café & Deli for the façade color and signage; Jackson Street Brewing for the installation of a garage door on the front façade and outdoor patio; Rocklin Manufacturing for art and signage; and Hardline Coffee for lighting, signage and outdoor space.

The program offers a matching grant to owners or tenants (with the owner’s permission) of commercial property in Downtown Sioux City. The grant aids in the form of matching funds that are paid to selected applicants upon completion of an approved impact project. Grant funding is available equaling up to 50% of owner or tenant investment and is capped at $2,500 per storefront. Downtown Partners has $12,000 budgeted for the program which businesses and property owners may utilize through July 1, 2020.
 

Businesses have six months from their award date to complete the enhancements. Projects will be reviewed as they are submitted and are due by the first of each month until the funds are depleted.
